The Importance of Lone Worker Tracking

The Health and Safety Executive recently published research results emphasising the dangers present to those working in agriculture, especially lone workers.  In the last decade, one person a week has been killed as a direct result of agricultural work.  The total estimated cost of injuries in farming, forestry and horticulture is estimated at £276 million each year, with an estimated 10,000 people injured every year.

With such high risk involved in the industry things can go wrong, so why not invest in a system to help safeguard your staff and comply with HSE regulations.  Trackplot can provide solutions and products that can assist with lone worker tracking and communication, and have successfully implemented systems for a number of farms and estates.

Trackplot provides 24/7 services for effective management and can provide bespoke and cost effective solutions.

Little Blue John Canyon

The Little Blue John Canyon in Utah which was the setting for the film 127 Hours, was the scene of another major accident for a solo hiker earlier this month. The Guardian newspaper reported that the hiker broke his leg and dislocated his shoulder during an expedition and was forced to crawl for four days back to his car to call for assistance. During his ordeal he was without mobile phone signal, but was using his GPS device to retrace his steps back to safety.

This is a story that is becoming more and more common these days with lone hikers finding themselves in highly risky situations and having no safety devices to call for help. The SPOT GPS Messenger can transmit signals via satellite as long as it has a relatively clear view of the sky. You can give regular location updates so family and friends can check your location on a secure online map, ensuring peace of mind. If something does go wrong during your expedition and you need urgent medical attention you can also send an SOS message which will be relayed to the nearest emergency rescue centre.

The benefits are clear to see, and if you are planning on going on an extreme expedition or even if you are a lone worker working somewhere were there is limited or no mobile phone reception, SPOT will help you stay in touch and stay safe.

The Guardian newspaper reported this story on their website on 25th September 2011. The full story can be found by following this link.

Trackplot in National Final

Trackplot were invited to participate in the national final of the STEP Awards, which is an event showcasing the achievements of graduates while on placement at participating businesses. Campbell McLeish, who is now the Sales and Marketing Executive for Trackplot, was invited to attend and present at the event final which was held at The Royal Society of Edinburgh on George Street on 6th September.

The all day event consisted of  participants giving two presentations to a panel of judges and audience members, as well as hosting an exhibition stand to market their host company and provide information on their products and services. At the end of the event there were speeches given from Professor David Sugden of Edinburgh University and Stewart Stevenson, who is the MSP for Banffshire and Buchan Coast and is also the current Climate Change Minister.

The event was a great opportunity to spread the word of Trackplot and their services to a wide variety of attendees, as well as show the successful work that has been achieved by Trackplot with The National Trust, DecAid Charity and The Royal Highland Show. The event proved to be a great success with the presentations being well recieved by the judges and the exhibition stand being very popular and highly informative.

Trackplot would like to thank Bright Business Partnership for the invite, as well as the The Royal Society of Edinburgh for their hospitality during the day.

DecAid, is a national charity appeal founded by students who are organising and participating in a number of challenges to help raise £350,000 for military services charities. Their current challenge is the Munro Mission which consist of the participants climbing all the 283 Scottish Munros in just 49 days, in memory of service men and women who lost their lives while serving in Afghanistan.
